SPHERE

PIETRO GELLONA & MAURIZIO VESCOVI – 2014

Pietro Gellona and Maurizio Vescovi’s reflections on architecture and landscape, art and nature materialize in the shape of the sphere. A geometric solid that not natural forces but only human action can produce in this type of environment, it is composed of a central core made up of circular wooden sectors, a galvanized net and grassy ground.

The surface layer of plant material removes the smooth and perfect uniformity of the sphere, recalling the irregularity of plant life and attributing a tactile component to the solid. Like a marble rolling along the traced track, the large plant globe is positioned in the middle of the path, redefined by the steps of visitors who, by going around the work, trace a new path that circumscribes it.
