TRENCH

ROBERTA RIZZI & CATERINA AGAZZI – 2013

The overlapping of jute bags filled with a mixture of earth, stones and lawn seed that outlines a practicable area is the project of Roberta Rizzi and Caterina Agazzi, a reflection that moves around artistic, architectural, historical and naturalistic research. An installation that is defined over time through the slow breathing of nature and offers itself to the cycle of the seasons. The reference to the trench is linked to historical memory, which here becomes a defense space in which nature itself can camouflage itself and redefine its boundaries. The work also refers to the architecture of the labyrinth as a place of loss and exploration.

Over time, the germination of the seeds placed inside the bags makes the artifact an integral part of the landscape, like a sort of new romantic ruin.
